Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s)

Good Manufacturing practices are an basic foundation of food operations.

GMP contains ten principles that introduces employees to critical behaviors established by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and industry leaders to maintain good manufacturing practices in plants.

Ten GMP Principles

  1. Writing procedures- SOP (standard operating procedures) and SSOP (Sanitation Standard Operating procedures)
  2. Following written procedures- e.g. process and production manuals
  3. Documenting for traceability
  4. Designing facilities and equipment- hygienic design is an essential part of every production facility 
  5. Maintaining facilities and equipment- i.e. working with reputable sanitation and pest control vendors

Food Safety Training For your Team

Food safety training is one of the basic principles of the Good Manufacturing practices and a “must” for every food operation.

For our customers in help or cannabis industries we partnered with well known Cannabis Trainers to provide ServSafe program, specifically tailored to the needs of the hemp and cannabis industry.

ServSafe® program blends the latest FDA Food Code, food safety research and years of food sanitation training experience. Employees and Managers learn to implement essential food safety practices and work in a culture of food safety. 

The program covers all the food safety must and is ideal for all manufacturers of edibles, tinctures, topicals etc.  NOTE: As part of the new rules IN CALIFORNIA, this class is mandatory.  Finally, this class fits all the requirements of the CDPH.

Food Safety Modernization Act Compliance

FSMA is a first comprehensive top-to-bottom overhaul of the United States food safety regulatory framework in 70 years.  It was originally signed into law by President Obama in January 2011.  FSMA touches every segment of the food business from farm to the plate. 

One of the first challenges that companies will face when diving into FSMA is understanding the law and the rules which will implement it. These include preventive controls specific requirements for imported foods, food safety inspections, the sanitary transportation of foods and compliance timelines. Establishing where each rule fits, and which rules apply to food facilities can be overwhelming at first. Doing a gap analysis is a good idea for this first challenge, as it will let a company know their current standing and what future steps to take.
